Studio Activity Ideas
Whether graded or ungraded, you can use Studio to help students interact with your instructional content and with each other! The below ideas can be used with the default Studio comments tool or by using Canvas Discussions and embedding your video directly in the discussion prompt area (*NOTE: Remember to disable comments when embedding Studio videos into Discussions to avoid confusion on where to respond).
- Prompt students to comment on something insightful, thought-provoking, or perhaps incorrect from a video you select. Ask them to respond to one or two peers after posting an initial response.
- Turn the comments into a debate. Assign students to roles and have them respond to parts of a video that justify their arguments.
- Ask students to create their own video and have their peers review through the comments.
- Informally quiz students throughout a video. Time the questions before you reveal information or shortly after to see if they've retained it.
- Have students watch a video in advance of a synchronous session. Ask them to pose a question in the comments that they'd like to cover during the live class.
Tracking Participation with Studio
Using Studio's Insights tool, you can see if students have watched a video, the duration they watched it for, and even the number of times they may have watched it. Check out the official Canvas Guide on the Insights tool Links to an external site..
- You may choose to informally track student data of each video to see how useful it is for your learners or if problems with the content may be present.
- You may decide to make watching content a participation requirement for attendance grading, bonus points, or as part of an assignment.
