NRSG 647 Nursing in Complex Care Situations

Course Description:

The Nursing in Complex Care Situations course is designed to integrate the clinical nursing, pathophysiology, and pharmacology content from all previous classes addressing situations involving multi-system and complex health challenges. The focus of this course is on the nursing management of acutely ill and injured client.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

1.   Identify pertinent data to plan patient and family-centered care for patients with complex health care needs that includes developmental stage, culturally relevant and linguistically appropriate communication strategies and interventions, and patient preference.

2.   Describe effective communication strategies to enhance interprofessional collaboration and accountability when providing care for patients with complex care needs.

3.   Using active learning strategies, apply leadership skills to teach, coach, and mentor members of the healthcare team.

4.   Synthesize evidence for practice to determine appropriate application of interventions across diverse populations.

5.   Apply practice guidelines and best evidence to scenarios to manage common complex care situations.

6.   Describe strategies for care coordination of the patient with complex care needs.

7.   Discuss the impact of changes in health care delivery systems on the individual, family, and population.

8.   Incorporate core scientific and ethical principles in identifying potential and actual ethical issues arising from practice.

9.   Evaluate the use of current patient care technologies and information systems in evidence-based care.

10.Social Determinants of Health (SDOH): Students will define and/or assess the influences of SDOH (cultural, social, environmental, and political) on illness and wellness in healthcare at the individual, family, community, and societal levels.
