Where do I start?
Emory Zoom Account
Be sure you and your students always log in to Zoom with Emory single sign-on (SSO) - it is important to use your Emory account rather than a personal account for security reasons and to ensure that you have access to the full Zoom suite licensed to Emory.
Please note: Some Emory users' accounts fall under our HIPAA-protected account—these individuals are in SOM, SON, SPH, WCI, a few Emory College clinicians, and FSAP. The primary functional difference for these users is that they cannot use Zoom cloud recording.
Using the Zoom desktop client and Emory Zoom web portal
The Zoom web portal can be accessed at https://emory.zoom.us/ Links to an external site. and is where you can change your profile, account settings, and meeting settings. You can also download the Zoom desktop client from that address.
The Zoom desktop client refers to the Zoom program you installed on your computer. You can change video, audio, and other settings from the desktop client. You can schedule, view, and edit meetings from the desktop client, the Zoom web portal, or the mobile app. It is highly recommended that you use the Zoom desktop client, as the Zoom web client (i.e. running Zoom within your web browser) and mobile apps do not have full functionality. You can view a comparison of the Zoom desktop client, mobile app, and web client here Links to an external site..
Conveniently, Zoom allows you be logged in to your account on one computer, one tablet, and one phone (Links to an external site.), and you may wish to install Zoom across all of your devices to test which options work best for you. You can install the desktop client from the Zoom download page Links to an external site. and install the mobile app from your device's app store. Remember to update the Zoom desktop client and mobile apps Links to an external site. periodically.
Updating the Zoom desktop client
You will receive a pop-up notification in the Zoom desktop client for mandatory updates, but it's important to periodically check for updates, as there are many optional updates that will improve your Zoom experience.
If you already have the Zoom desktop client installed, you can check for updates:
- Sign in to Zoom desktop client.
- Click your profile picture then click Check for Updates.
- If there is a newer version, Zoom will download and install it.
For more information, see the Zoom Support page for updates Links to an external site..
Joining a Zoom meeting
To join a Zoom meeting Links to an external site., you can click on the Zoom link provided to you. Whether you open this on your computer or phone, this should trigger the meeting to open in your internet browser, the Zoom desktop client, or the Zoom mobile app.
Alternatively, if you are provided with the Meeting ID but not the Zoom link (or if the Zoom servers are down and the link is not automatically bringing you to the meeting), you can open the Zoom program, go the Home tab, click Join, and enter the Meeting ID. You can do the same via the mobile app or in your internet browser at join.zoom.us.
Scheduling and sharing the Zoom meeting information with others
